HERITAGE

HOME / HERITAGE

The preservation and revitalization of historical structures embody our commitment to sustainability and cultural responsibility. Heritage projects involve more than maintaining the past; they require thoughtful reinvention to ensure these landmarks remain relevant for future generations. By combining modern functionality with respect for historical integrity, we create solutions that honor the context and story of architectural monuments. Whether it’s breathing new life into a 19th-century industrial site or updating a mid-century landmark like Düsseldorf Theater, our approach bridges tradition and innovation, safeguarding history while meeting contemporary needs.

CULTURAL CONTEXT

Every heritage project tells a story, rooted in its cultural and historical significance. Our goal is to respect and elevate that narrative while adapting the structure to modern use. For example, the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, an iconic 1960s landmark by Bernhard Pfau and a listed heritage building, underwent a careful restoration and modernization. The structure was returned to its original appearance while being adapted to contemporary standards. Enhanced transparency at the ground level creates a more open and inviting presence, seamlessly integrating the building into its urban surroundings.

The balance between preservation and progress ensures that historical landmarks remain living, functional parts of our cities. Heritage projects enrich urban landscapes, connecting communities with their roots while making space for future generations to thrive. E.g. the new headquarters of Stadtwerke Düsseldorf seamlessly integrates the historic machine hall and parts of a former power plant. Large-scale glazing ensures an elegant transition between old and new structures while maximizing natural daylight penetration.

The headquarters of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf and the Burda Tower in Offenburg underwent comprehensive modernization, transforming 1960s high-rises with new, energy-efficient façades. The refurbishment introduced double-skin façades, enabling natural ventilation for most of the year.

FUTURE-READY LEGACIES

Refurbishing heritage sites goes hand in hand with making them resilient and adaptable for the challenges ahead. Through innovative materials, sustainable practices, and intelligent retrofitting, we transform historical buildings into future-proof assets. From restoring façades with sustainable techniques to repurposing interiors for modern lifestyles, our work preserves the essence of these spaces while preparing them for decades to come. Heritage is not just about preserving the past—it’s about creating living legacies that inspire and serve the communities of today and tomorrow.
