PROJECTS / BURDA HOCHHAUS
Hubert Burda Media Tower
This slender high-rise tower was built to be a highly-visible architectural sign for the successful printing and publishing company Burda in Offenburg, Germany. The refurbishment of the 1960s tower created a building with open offices, flexible usage, efficient services and a double-skin façade for natural ventilation. As part of a comprehensive reorganisation, the original edifice was stripped down to its structure and an extra storey was added to provide space for conference rooms at the top of the building.

The double façade creates additional interior space and allows natural ventilation almost year round. Thus, the provision of full air conditioning for the building could be avoided and operating costs reduced. The building is heated and conditioned through a custom-designed heating-cooling baffle with integrated lighting
