PROJECTS / STADTSPARKASSE DÜSSELDORF

Headquarters of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf

The new headquarters of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf breathes new life into the old building designed by Ferdinand Kramer and Heinrich Roskotten in 1964. The comprehensive renovation of the high-rise mainly involved a new glass façade and an addition of three extra floors.

Floor-to-ceiling glass windows were installed in front of the completely exposed load-bearing concrete walls across the entire façade. The new façade windows, with their exceptionally narrow aluminum frames, are movable.

The building received three additional stories, allowing it to integrate better with the local surroundings. On the ground floor, the pathways through the building connect with the local public pedestrian routes. The interior benefits from the advantageous glass atrium and the pleasant, inviting spaces between the planted trees.

On Berliner Allee, between Stein- and Grünstraße, the work of Swiss installation artist Beat Streuli offers a spectacular sight. Streuli applied portraits of different people onto a transparent filter layer, covering the entire podium of the building. This design welcomes pedestrians on the street and makes the building more inviting in the cityscape.
