Mixed-use Building in the Historic Center in Lübeck
The buildings fit into a plot that heals the urban scars in the immediate context of the marketplace while considering the historical city structures. The buildings' volume and height relate to the existing development. The articulation and proportion of the metal-clad roof shells are inspired by traditional Lübeck roofscapes. The facades are vertically divided into sections and consist of a glass layer with a terracotta louvered layer in front. These serve as sun protection for the floor-to-ceiling glass facades of the retail spaces behind them, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow on the surfaces.
Storefronts and entrances on the ground floor are glazed, while the first and second floors feature a louvered facade. The commercial building and office building have different facades but conform to the rhythm of the roof shells. The number of floors and their uses are discernible from the outside. Within the townhouse and the commercial building, large contiguous areas for flexible office use are situated beneath the vaulted roof shell construction. The vertical sections of the facades are fully glazed. The setback from the terracotta facade of the building creates a roughly 50-centimeter deep balcony, secured by a glass railing. The exterior is clad in a matte-gloss metal covering.
