PROJECTS / LANSERHOF TEGERNSEE

Health-promoting Architecture in a Cloak of Simple Elegance

The Lanserhof health resort at Tegernsee Lake in southern Bavaria was successfully completed in the spring of 2014. Situated in one of Europe's most beautiful natural regions, it offers 70 rooms and suites for guests to enjoy preventive and therapeutic treatments. Spanning 21,000 square meters, Christoph Ingenhoven , in collaboration with landscape architect Enzo Enea, realized an impressive architectural vision. The main building, with its clear lines and angular geometric shape, integrates seamlessly into the landscape. Light plays a crucial role in the design, with the use of high-quality, natural materials in the interior and large window fronts creating a warm and bright atmosphere.

The architecture reflects and complements the Lanserhof health philosophy, with all decisions made in accordance with the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The goal was to combine the comfort of a luxury hotel with state-of-the-art medical care facilities under one roof.

Nestled in one of Europe's most beautiful landscapes, the Lanserhot resort on the legernsee in Southern Bavaria offers 70 rooms and suites. Guests can enjoy preventative and regenerative treatments in this health resort. The Lanserhof combines luxury hotel facilities and state-of-the-art medical care under one roof.

The architecture of the Lanserhof matches and supports the health philosophy of the resort. The cubic building with clear lines integrates well into the landscape. The floor plan follows the classic concept of a cloister, whose wings surround a green and protected courtyard that offers ample space open to all guests. It is overlooked by the rooms and suites with the green facades of the two upper stories. The architecture follows the principle of "less is more" to support the spirit of the place with a reduced and simple design, natural materials and abundant daylight.

The layout follows the classical concept of a monastery. Adhering to the principle of "less is more," the architectural concept emphasizes simplicity and natural materials, enhancing the genius loci. The building's wings enclose a landscaped and protected inner courtyard, offering ample space for all guests and visible from the rooms and suites. Large windows and balconies provide open views of the bathhouse, the nearby golf course, and the surrounding landscape. Sliding shutters with slender wooden louvres offer privacy and solar screening, allowing for both open views and complete seclusion.

Large windows and loggias open views to the surroundings of the bathhouse, a nearby golf course and the landscape.

Sliding shutters with fine wooden lamellas provide visual privacy and solar shading for the loggias, and create open or semi-opaque spots. Like separate "houses", , the guest rooms reflect the principle that every guest should have his or her own place of refuge. Natural materials support the therapeutic effect of a stay at the resort and are part of an overall holistic approach towards a healing architecture. The health-promoting architecture emphasizes research in building biology to ensure its compatibility with health aims. All choices were made in accordance with the criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Mainly natural and untreated materials were used, such as larch from certified sustainable sources for the facades. Wooden surfaces, shades of white and warm colors create a contemplative ambiance in the treatment and social rooms. The light colors and the elegance of the interiors add to a peaceful and friendly atmosphere. The floor-to-ceiling windows and generous loggias at the front of each room provide broad views of the Tegernsee valley.

The guest rooms are designed as places of retreat, using natural materials to support the intended therapeutic effect. This is part of a holistic concept aimed at creating a wholesome, health-promoting architecture, emphasizing building biology principles to aid in the healing of residents. Wooden surfaces, along with alternating white and warm color shades, create a contemplative ambiance in the treatment and common rooms. The light colors and simple elegance of the interior enhance the peaceful, friendly atmosphere of the rooms, where floor-to-ceiling windows and generous loggias offer panoramic views of the Tegernsee valley.

The successful completion of this project led the Lanserhof Group to award three additional contracts for projects in Lans, London, and Sylt.
