PROJECTS / GIRA HEADQUARTERS
An Office Building Filled with Natural Light
In collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute, an optimal utilization of the site was developed, taking into account optimized production processes, with consideration for future expansion and renovation measures. The building showcases all internal production processes behind a transparent, fully glazed street-facing facade. The ground floor houses the plastic machinery, while the upper floor contains the mold-making facilities, the testing laboratory, and the associated administrative areas.
Storage areas and the necessary technical and production-specific supply facilities are located in the basement. The buildings consist of structures with dimensions of approximately 22 meters in width, 71.5 meters in length, and a total height of about 14 meters. The two structures are arranged parallel to each other with a distance of five meters between them. Glass stairwells at the ends connect the individual building sections and enclose the space between them, forming a protected courtyard. The roof plane extends into the facade area with sun protection elements and metal cladding. The floor-to-ceiling steel-glass facades, held at the outer edges of the frame, give the building transparency. The facade is horizontally divided, with ventilation panels allowing natural ventilation for a large part of the workspaces on the upper floor. An auxiliary ventilation system is provided for the ventilation of the interior spaces.
