Synergy with the Mountain Slope

In Sils, near St. Moritz, ingenhoven associates is designing an innovative hotel that harmonizes with its natural surroundings. The two-story structure nestles into the mountain slope, blending seamlessly with the landscape in terms of height, volume, structure, and material selection. The hotel's design respects the local context while harnessing the area's natural potential. The building is separate from the bottom station, maintaining the functional and aesthetic integrity of the existing architecture and ensuring a clear functional separation of various traffic flows.

The welcoming ground floor serves as a social hub, connecting hotel guests and commuters.

The lobby level is distinguished by a louvered façade that extends outward. Like the trees in the adjacent forest, the strategically placed louvers provide both views and protection from the elements. Room orientation is optimized for sunlight, and the modular façade components interact harmoniously with the landscape. A curved façade shapes wind-protected zones for the outdoor terraces, rest areas, and access points.

The hotel’s year-round heating needs are met by utilizing excess engine heat from the bottom station, supplemented by a wood gasifier. A rainwater and greywater system is planned to partially meet the hotel's water needs, supplying flushing and usage water without compromising comfort. Additionally, green roofs and rainwater retention systems will help regulate the microclimate around the building.
